Take 100 g accurately weighed, powdered drug in a 2 L round bottomed flask and add 1 L of water to it. Subject the mixture to hydrodistillation in a Clevenger's apparatus for 6 h and note the volume (2 mL) of the oil collected. Dissolve the oil in n-hexane and pass the hexane layer through anhydrous sodium sulphate and make up the volume to 10 mL with n-hexane |
