Sample preparation | . Weigh accurately 5 g of the powder in a round-bottom flask, add 200 mL of water, connect the apparatus for determination of volatile oil, add water to the 3 mL volume, add 2-3 mL of n-hexane, connect the condenser, heat to boil slightly for 2 hours, cool, separate n-hexane layer and allow to filter through the funnel containing 1 g of dehydrated sodium sulfate into a 5 mL volumetric flask with a small quantity of n-hexane, combine washings to the volumetric flask and dilute with n-hexane to volume and mix well. Filter and use the successive filtrate as test solution |
